I was experiencing symptoms of stress and anxiety at work due to a combination of high workload, ineffective time management and low self-esteem. I would often work late or take work home with me. I found it hard to switch off from work and relax. This was affecting my home life and I was enjoying work less and less. Additionally, I was expecting my first baby, and I was concerned that if I couldn’t cope well with the stress of a full-time busy work environment that this could have a negative effect on my pregnancy.
Janet provided me with a range of techniques to reassess my time management as well as prioritising my work more effectively. Building on this, Janet helped me to increase my personal resilience to stress at work by teaching me meditation and mindfulness techniques. I had tried meditation before but from a different background and hadn’t found it useful, however, Janet’s approach was refreshing and much more tailored to my needs. I found that I could use meditation and simple breathing exercises when I was feeling anxious, both before going to work and also during the day.
The coaching enabled me to realise the importance of time and space away from work to help me manage stress and anxiety. I found that before the coaching was even finished, I was feeling much less anxious and frustrated about work and I wasn’t “taking work home with me” in my mind every evening. Janet also really helped me to assess areas of my work causing me anxiety and turn these into opportunities and positive situations. Through confidence-boosting tools and goal setting, Janet set me on a pathway to take forward a small project that I had wanted to develop for a couple of years but previously I hadn’t the positive thought processes to get this started.
Janet’s coaching has been a revelation in terms of how I feel about myself, my perceptions about my role in the workplace and how I deal with stressful situations. She provided me with an invaluable toolkit that will be incredibly useful in my career and as a new mum.
